Ch ch ch changes!
Dreams Underfoot is experiencing another personnel change. I (tshuma, Tanwen, Xtyn, etc.) will be leaving the band, in preparation for moving, setting up a new house, and resuming my last two years of school.

I'd always intended this to be a short run. snakefeathers originally asked me to become their lead instrument when his former melody player had to cut and run due to life things, and they had a gig in something like six or eight weeks. Their first gig, in fact. I knew I'd commit through that gig, and then we'd see what happened next. I knew (and shared with them) that when I returned to school, I'd need to take time off. Then we had another gig. And another....and I could never leave, because there was always the next gig for which to prepare. But leave I must.

So, that's it. The band has been in somewhat of a lull since our last gig, adding a few new tunes and polishing up the sets we already have, and we don't yet have another gig scheduled. It was a good time to effect the change. The good news is that chilipants plays the same instruments I do (and more!) and is generally better at them (cause hey, she's been doing it longer, and more dedicatedly, you know?), and she sings in much the same range that I do. It means losing some of the neat byplay of us both playing whistles, or trading off solos between the harmonica and the whistle, but she can easily step into my shoes as lead musician and take the band in whole new directions. It'll be great.

And yes, I'll miss them. But now I get to be their official biggest fan!

Watch this space for upcoming shows at the Printers Cafe in Palo Alto, and more.

Next gig: April 2nd, 8:00 - 9:30 PM
Dreams Underfoot's next gig will be at the Printer's Inc Cafe on California Avenue in Palo Alto. We will be featuring a couple of new pieces and all new arrangements as we incorporate our two newest members into the formerly three-person band. With Frank we've acquired percussion and back-up vocals, with Janelle we've landed newer and more layered harmonies, whistles, recorders, baglama, and harmonica. Together, they'll be expanding our repertoire to include a few more exotic sounds, from Balkan singing to the songs from the old South, as well as a number of traditional tunes from the British Isles. I've had the pleasure of performing with the two of them in years past, and I'm very excited about the strength and energy they've already added to the band's sound.

So come see us in our second public appearance at Printer's Inc Cafe! Rumour has it that the manager enjoyed us so much last time that she's exploring the option of hiring us as a regular house band. We're considering this performance to be our audition/second interview, and we'd love to have your support! We'll even make eye contact with you this time, we promise!

Proudly announcing Dreams Underfoot!
Dreams Underfoot is having our first, fully public, non-wedding, non-private party, non-ceili gig. In a coffee house.

If you want to come hear us, you'll find us tomorrow night at Printer's Inc. in Palo Alto on California Street between 7:00 and 9:00 PM, more or less. Come watch tshuma's fingers fall off in a frenzy! Catch the brand-new licks from dkferret on the bass! Watch our guitarist vamp to the crowd! Vamp, snakefeathers, vamp!
